SUMMARY:HAVANA: WHERE THE PAST MEETS THE FUTURE
DESCRIPTION:Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month\n\nOpening: Thursday, September 10, 2026, 7:30 PM\nWine will be served.\nOn view: September 10 – October 31, 2026\nCultural Center “Our Texas” located at 2337 Bissonnet Street, Houston, TX 77005\nThe Cultural Center “Our Texas” will host Havana: Where the Past Meets the Future, a collaborative exhibition featuring Cuban-American artist Timoteo Domínguez Fuentes and Russian-American photographer Vladimir Frumin. This visual dialogue brings together painting and photography to explore themes of identity, memory, and resilience.\nDomínguez Fuentes’ paintings examine migration, cultural identity, spirituality, and social resilience through vibrant, emotionally charged figurative compositions. His work merges traditional artistic language with contemporary conceptual approaches, reflecting on collective memory and the enduring strength of communities facing displacement and change.\nHis work has been exhibited at venues including the YMCA and World Refugee Houston, and his murals can be found in hotels, restaurants, and schools across Houston, Cancún, and Havana. In Cuba, he was recognized as a winner of the “Panchito Simón” Municipal Plastic Arts Competition.\nVladimir Frumin’s photography complements these themes through stark, contemplative images of neglected urban spaces—such as deserted parks and abandoned buildings—as well as portraits of isolated individuals. His work captures the quiet dignity of those living on the margins of society.\nHis photography has received international recognition, including the Sony World Photography Awards for Conceptual Art (2016) and Portraits (2023). His work was exhibited at Somerset House in London. In 2016, Frumin received the Carol Crow Fellowship Award at the Houston Center for Photography for the documentary “Everybody’s 5th Ward,” as well as Black & White Magazine’s Excellence Award (2011) and Spotlight Award (2014).\nTogether, the artists create a compelling narrative of shared human experience, bridging cultural and geographic divides through empathy and visual storytelling.\nThe exhibition is free and open to the public.\nGallery Hours:\nMonday – Friday: 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM\nSaturday, Sunday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM\nSponsor:\n\n
